Do people actually say lo siento?
Just like in English, you apologize in many ways in Spanish. Perhaps the most common one is saying lo siento.
Está bien, pero … – It's ok, but …
You'd normally say 'está bien, pero' and then explain how the situation in question has affected you negatively OR emphasize that you don´t want the person to do the same thing again!
“Lo siento”
This is the most common phrase for sorry, and is mostly used in informal situations. For example, if you make a mistake you would say “lo siento” to express saying sorry.
"Perdón" means "pardon (me). "Disculpe" means "excuse (me)." "Lo siento" means "I'm sorry" like "I'm sorry for hurting you." Hope this helps!
If you'd like to say “sorry” in Spanish, you would generally say “lo siento.” However, there are times when using “perdón” or “disculple” may be more appropriate.
Lo siento is Spanish for “I feel it”. While it is also defined as “to be sorry”, sentir is also used as “to feel”. Examples: Me siento mal – “I don't feel well”, literally “I feel bad”
Saying "yo siento" probably does not mean what you think it does. You have to say "lo siento" to effectively say I'm sorry. The verb "sentir" means "to feel" so saying "lo siento" literally means "I feel it" and that somehow means "I'm sorry".
If you don't know whether you'll cross paths with someone again, you can tell them espero volver a verte (“I hope to see you again”). You can answer to such a goodbye by saying yo también (“me too”).
Well at least in Mexico is not common to say "lo siento" instead we say "perdón" for apologizing. The only part that I've heard "lo siento" is in movies or telenovelas. A stronger version of "perdón" is "perdóname" or "discúlpame". You can add "por favor" at the beginning or at the end of the sentence.
I'm so sorry.
What does lo siento pero mean?
Translation of "lo siento pero" in English. I'm sorry but I am sorry but. I'm sorry I.
- No hay problema – No problem.
- No importa – It's fine.
- No te preocupes – Don't worry about it.
- No es nada – It's not a big deal.

¡Disculpe!
A great all around way to say excuse me or politely get someone's attention is Disculpe (or disculpa in the tú form).
Whether or not to forgive someone is definitely your call; if you do, the answer is: “Te perdono” (I forgive you) or “Acepto tu disculpa” (I accept your apology). Examples: ¿Me perdonas por haberte gritado? (Can you forgive me for yelling at you?)
¡Para! Stop! ¡Que pares! (I've told you to) stop!
Spanish Phrase #1 – How to Say Excuse Me in Spanish: Con Permiso.
Permiso: When trying to pass someone you can also say “permiso” or “con permiso”, which is not technically a way to apologize, since literally what you are doing is asking for permission to pass, but it still is polite.
te pido/le pido disculpas de corazón
Context: Te pido disculpas (informal) or Le pido disculpas (formal) can be used to apologize or ask for forgiveness. Adding de corazón is for more dire situations when you really need to emphasize your remorse. Examples: Te pido disculpas de corazón por cómo te traté.
- Perdón (I'm sorry) / Perdóname (forgive me) ...
- Lo siento (I'm sorry) ...
- Te/Le pido disculpas (I apologize / I ask for your forgiveness) ...
- Te pido disculpas de corazón (I sincerely apologize) ...
- Te/Le debo disculpas (I owe you an apology)
- Por favor disculpeme por mi pobre español. ("Please excuse me for my poor Spanish.")
- Por favor disculpeme, mi español es muy pobre. ("Please excuse me my Spanish is poor.")
- Por favor disculpeme, mi español es muy malo ("Please excuse me my Spanish is very bad.").
What does lo siento te amo mean?
I'm sorry, I love you.
Translation of "lo siento hermano" in English. sorry brother.
You're both right to say that personal pronouns like yo are usually used sparingly in Spanish: most of the time, speakers drop them unless they want to show emphasis or to clarify who they are talking about.
not much. Millions translate with DeepL every day.
If you want to say I'm sorry to someone, girl or guy, it's always lo siento.
The most common word to say “goodbye” in Spanish is adiós, but there are several other options depending on the situation.
HASTA LA MUERTE (UNTIL DEATH)
- ¡Aguas!: Watch out!
- Sale: Alright.
- Chido: Awesome.
- Padre: Cool.
- Ándale: Come on.
- Avísame: Let me know!
- Órale: All right.
- Porfis: Please.
Claro que no – Of course not
This is a neutral, polite way to say “no” in Spanish if you want to deny something.
• Güey. This is the most ubiquitous word in everyday Mexican conversation. If you're going to learn just one piece of Mexican Spanish slang, let güey be the one. Most closely translated to 'mate', you'll mainly see it written as wey (which is incidentally how it's pronounced) rather than güey.
How do you politely say sorry?
- I apologize. ...
- I can't apologize enough. ...
- Please accept my sincerest apologies. ...
- I'm regretful. ...
- Pardon me. ...
- Please forgive me. ...
- I am at fault and take full responsibility. ...
- I beg your pardon.
- Name what you did wrong. Don't just say: “I'm sorry you got hurt.” That's not owning up to your actions. ...
- Use empathy. Maybe your actions wouldn't have hurt you, but the fact is that they hurt someone else. ...
- Make it all about you. ...
- Keep explanations brief. ...
- Let it go.
Perdón (pear DOHN): Sorry/excuse me.
This is a courteous way to move around someone or apologize.
- Lo siento, pero ya tengo un compromiso – I am sorry, but I have already made plans.
- Me gustaría, pero no puedo – I'd love, but I can't.
- Desafortunadamente no puedo – Unfortunately, I can't.
¡Venga ya! (or sometimes simply ¡Venga!) is a way of expressing surprise or disbelief. Just like “no way,” “come on!” or “come off it!” in English, it's used when you are shocked.
- Buenos días – Good morning.
- Buenas tardes – Good afternoon.
- Buenas noches – Good night.
- Por favor – Please.
- Gracias – Thanks.
- De nada – You're welcome.
- No hay de qué – You're welcome.
- Con permiso – Excuse me.
- You can also say "lo siento mucho" or "lo siento muchísimo," meaning "I'm so sorry" or "I'm very sorry." ...
- This apology is appropriate for serious situations such as the death of a loved one, a break-up, or a firing or layoff.
Correct. When you say “I'm sorry” it's typically lo siento unless you're sorry for a specific thing, in which case you drop the lo. The lo is “it” and it stands in for the noun. So if you then specify the noun, the lo becomes redundant.
Arrepentir and lamentar are the two most common ways of translating the word “regret” in Spanish.
